FAQs

What people ask us

How does the service work?
  1. The first step is to explain your main idea clearly to the tattoo artist, so they fully understand what you want.
  2. The second step is to tell the tattoo artist/manager where you would like the tattoo and its size.
  3. Once the tattoo artist/manager knows this, they can price the tattoo and give you a quote.
  4. In the fourth step you accept the quote or not and, depending on that decision, a date is chosen for the tattoo.
  5. Once you have a date, all you have to do is wait for your appointment, without pressuring the tattoo artist about your design.
  6. As the last step, the tattoo artist will send you the design. If you don’t like it, the necessary changes will be made and, once you are happy with it, you just wait for your appointment.

In some cases, such as small tattoos, the design is made on the day of the session.

Who can get a tattoo?

Anyone can get a tattoo except pregnant women or people with any kind of active skin condition, such as viral warts, herpes or bacterial infections, according to experts. Tattoos are also not advisable for people with psoriasis or lichen planus, a condition that causes recurring rashes and itching on the skin or in the mouth.

On the other hand, if you tend to develop keloid scars, that is, large raised scars, the unavoidable wounds caused by the tattoo can leave unsightly marks.

Can anaesthetic be applied?

An anaesthetic cream can be applied to the skin; you can find EMLA at the pharmacy, or talk directly to the tattoo artist for a recommendation.

In some cases it is better not to apply these creams, as some tattoos are more delicate than others and it could affect the result.

How do I heal a tattoo?

A fresh tattoo is, literally, a wound that needs to heal so that it scars over as soon as possible. Aftercare is important and the healing process takes a while. If you want a perfect result, at Motink Tattoo we recommend following these steps:

  1. Wash your hands before touching your tattoo.
  2. Remove the cling film about 30 minutes after the tattoo has been covered.
  3. On the first night, cover the tattoo with cling film.
  4. For the first 24 hours, only wash the tattoo three times a day (morning, midday and night), depending on when your session ends.
  5. After 24 hours, apply healing cream three times a day (morning, midday and night) for two weeks.
  6. After two weeks, apply moisturising cream once a day to keep the tattoo hydrated.
  7. If a scab forms on the tattoo, do not pick it. It will fall off on its own as it heals.
  8. Do not sunbathe or swim in the sea, pools, jacuzzis, lakes or rivers. After one month, we recommend full sun protection for the tattoo.
How should I prepare for my tattoo?

We recommend that you eat well beforehand and remember to stay hydrated. If you start to feel dizzy, have a soft drink. Sugar is your friend in this situation.

It is better not to go out partying the night before, because alcohol can increase bleeding for up to 24 hours. Blood also dilutes our pigments, affecting both the look of your tattoo and the healing process. Remember to stay calm, you are in good hands. There is nothing to worry about, it’s just a tattoo!

What is the healing process of a tattoo like?

The skin heals in several stages. Seven days after micropigmentation, small scabs form and they must fall off on their own; we will never touch them by pulling or scratching. Then the epidermis peels, removing excess pigment. The remaining colour will be softer. After four weeks the skin has finished healing and the colour will look brighter. After 30 days, we can see whether a second touch-up session is needed.

How do I book an appointment?

Our resident artists usually book a few weeks in advance because they almost always have a waiting list. You can book an appointment at the studio or by calling 633275835. The term “walk-in” means you don’t need an appointment. Walk-ins are served on a first-come, first-served basis, if cancellations allow. We will always do our best to meet your request.

Do I need to leave a deposit if I decide to book a tattoo appointment?

Yes. A 25% deposit is required to book an appointment and it will be deducted from the final price of your tattoo. You can change your tattoo appointment if you let us know at least 72 hours in advance; if you do not attend the session for any reason, the deposit will be lost.
